WORK LIKE A DOG

Everyone, even an artist with a passion for their craft, has days where working feels more routine and tiring than others.

“Work Like A Dog” takes inspiration from my family hound, reminding myself to continuously find joy in the mundane tasks, not just the big projects.

THE PROCESS

We were tasked with creating a short animation and composite it onto a shot filmed from life. It needed that momentary illusion of a still poster before coming to life.

This was a first dive into 2D compositing with Nuke (breakdown shown below).

The video plate was filmed in my own dorm room with a borrowed camera, which I’d never done before. It was interesting to learn camera basics for the first time and encouraged me to get more comfortable with it in the future.

THE Animation

The composited piece was created in After Effects with an effects cocktail to give it a slightly tactile boil. The crayon-like edges and primary colors cemented the childish feeling of the animation.
